Funding: Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies.

Committee Overlap: Social Justice Task Force.

To establish relationships with Tribal Nations in Margaret A. Cargill’s 10-state Midwest region as well as the regional entities who work with them.

ASFPM will conduct research to better understand the support needs of Tribal Nations as they work to reduce flood risk, as well as what support is already available as provided by non-profit organizations, academia, the federal government, and other support entities. Activities will include the development of a literature review, creation of a network map of tribal support organizations and their programs, and direct engagement activities with Tribal Nations, including one-on-one conversations, site visits, and roundtable convenings. The primary target outcome is to improve connections with and between floodplain and emergency managers in Tribal Nations and their support networks to continue to grow the capacity of Tribal Nations to reduce flood risk.
