To support the maintenance of the existing units of the NFIP 101: Introduction to Floodplain Management within ASFPM's learning management system and the development of a certification track.

The role of the nation's floodplain managers is expanding due to increases in disaster losses, the emphasis on mitigation to alleviate the cycle of damage-rebuild-damage, and a recognized need for professionals to adequately address these issues. ASFPM has established a national training program for floodplain managers, which includes the certification of floodplain managers via the CFM Exam. ASFPM’s training program works to ensure that floodplain managers are prepared to meet the challenge of reducing flood losses and protecting the natural and beneficial functions of floodplains across our nation. The program recognizes the need for continuing education and professional development that enhances the knowledge and performance of local, state, federal and private-sector floodplain management professionals.

In 2021, ASFPM began collaborating with FEMA Floodplain Management to host an introduction to floodplain management course within the ASFPM learning management system (PathLMS). The objective of this activity is to host, maintain, and manage FEMA-developed online courses within ASFPM’s learning management system (PathLMS). Nine units of the “NFIP 101: Introduction to Floodplain Management” course have already been loaded into PathLMS. Management of the course(s) includes tracking all Continuing Education Credits (CECs) and/or progress towards a certificate, regular reporting on usage statistics including pre/post-course exam performance, and working with FEMA around the addition of any new courses or units.
